From mid October to mid March we begin our Leil Shabbat service when Shabbat begins. During these months Mincha on Fridays will always begin at the candle lighting time for that week, followed by Kabbalat Shabbat and maariv.
In the Beginning
Our Minyan was founded in 1995 when a group of friends and followers of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach zt”l, gathered together to pray in the basement of Beth Jacob Synagogue in Beverly Hills. When Rabbi Avner Weiss witnessed the group praying, he was so inspired that he offered them weekly use of the building’s small Beit Midrash. Lovingly spearheaded by Stuart and Enny Wax, Johnny Boyer, Lewis Weinger, and Jeff and Linda Rohatiner, they welcomed all who wanted to join and named the new prayer group “The Happy Minyan.”
Today, into Tomorrow
The Happy Minyan offers weekly Shabbat services and classes, a monthly sponsored communal Shabbat lunch for over 100 people, a Sunday morning community service and class, dynamic High Holiday services, year-round inspirational programming, live concerts and much more. On Shabbat and High Holidays we provide a childcare program for ages 6 months to 12 years old with davening (prayer) for all ages led by professional facilitators. Our minyan is over 100 members strong and growing.
